Stop Killing Games Condemns Destructive GTA 6 Leakers: ‘Do Not Send These People Your Money’

The internet was treated to some rather legitimate-looking Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks yesterday, and while the content of the leaks is the main focus for fans of Rockstar Games’ long-awaited title, the motivations of the anti-“big corpo” group behind them , known as “Cyberleek,” are arguably far more interesting.

However, despite Cyberleek’s supposed pro-consumer justifications, the digital rights and legal consumer protections group Stop Killing Games has condemned the group for “using the leak to promote a meme coin” and “using illegal means” to make their point.

“Do not send these people your money, no matter how much sympathy you may feel for their actions,” stated SKGs Director General, Moritz Katzner, in a post on the r/StopKillingGames subreddit. “This is illegal, and frankly, we feel for everyone at Rockstar having to go through this ordeal again, especially just over a week before Rockstar’s own official ‘Extended Look’ premieres.”

For context, the leaked GTA 6 footage in question featured links and QR codes for Cyberleek’s website and a crypto coin. Cyberleek’s websites feature a list of “Commandments” that the group demands of both Rockstar Games and video game publishers in general, many of which happen to align with the same demands that Stop Killing Games’ platform is founded on.

A statement on the current GTA 6 Footage leak situation

For instance, the third “Commandment” in Cyberleek’s manifesto calls for “offline fallback state[s]” for single-player games, with the group arguing that consumers should not lose access to content in single-player titles simply because the online servers for said games shut down. The group also stated that the crypto coin its pushing in the leaked GTA 6 footage is to fund a “secret project,” which is presumably related to Cyberleek’s claim that it will “target” further publishers who break any of the commandments listed in its manifesto.

“Using illegal means to make a point is unacceptable to us and does nothing to protect our right to keep using what we paid for,” continued Katzner in SKG’s statement. “No matter how strongly you disagree with the decisions of upper management at these companies, there are still thousands of developers who worked hard on this project, and they’re the ones being hit the hardest.”

While Stop Killing Games’ stance certainly makes sense, considering that the group has always sought to pursue change through legitimate legal channels, many on both Reddit and X have questioned its decision to address the GTA 6 leaks. To that end, Katzner explained in a separate comment on Reddit that the group feels its important to call Cyberleek’s methods out, in case “the politicians to whom towards we want to make [an] impression of being reasonable” judge the video game community for the hackers’ actions.
