Grand Theft Auto 6 Will Have Some Kind Of Relationship System
Grand Theft Auto 6 has been leaking for days, so it’s kind of jarring to actually have something coming from Rockstar about the game, but ahead of tomorrow’s big Netflix showcase we do have some new details from an official source: an interview Rockstar did with Dazed . If you push past the weird aside in which the author questions whether or not people accept that video games are “an artform” in the year 2026, there are some intriguing details that haven’t been hinted at in any of the recent leaks, including the fact that protagonists Jason and Lucia will have some kind of relationship mechanic when the game comes out in a few short months.
While Rockstar doesnt get into too many specifics, the interview says that GTA6 will have some element of choices [that] can have repercussions that cut much deeper than Rockstar’s previous titles or ‘Honor’ systems that reward conscientious game playing,” specifically regarding the romantic relationship between Jason and Lucia. Rockstar senior vice president of narrative Rupert Humphries says that the game is intentionally meant to read as a “ Bonnie and Clyde -type narrative” about a pair of criminal lovers against the world, and it seems like player choice will somehow factor into their relationship.
That could mean a lot of things. Will you have to make some big decisions in the story, or will doing certain types of things in the open world have an effect on the relationship? The mention of the Honor system from Red Dead Redemption implies that it could be reactive to things you do while running around the city. Perhaps if you go to a strip club or hire a sex worker as one character, it affects their standing with the other? Maybe we’ll find out tomorrow during the Netflix showcase.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, and thus far some of the most illuminating stuff we’ve seen from the game has come from an ongoing series of leaks showing off gameplay and, now, story spoilers . Rockstar finally released a statement on the matter this morning, calling the new clips “heartbreaking” for the team.
