GTA 6's Netflix trailer premiere was so popular it temporarily crashed the streaming service
Those eager to see GTA 6 's big Netflix reveal this evening were met with a "Something Went Wrong" message at the moment the video was meant to go live, with the rush to see Rockstar's latest open-world epic seemingly bringing the streaming service to its knees.
The error message, which was shown to would-be-watchers on the Netflix app, popped up almost as soon as GTA 6: An Extended Look was due to premiere, cutting what should've been a climatic moment for Rockstar Games a little short. The message then directed folks to "find lots to explore" elsewhere on the streaming service, presumably because millions of drooling fans were excitedly logging on to get their first proper look at GTA 6 at the same time.
Netflix's error message popped up across the streamer's desktop app, mobile app, and console apps. The heavy congestion seemingly didn't clog the service for too long, however, as fans began gaining access to the roughly 20-something-minute showcase within the hour.
Still, it's a solid sign the appetite for GTA 6 is as big as can be. To put things into perspective, the last time Netflix properly crashed because of a show was on the heels of the Stranger Things Season 5 finale, which reportedly managed to attract over 59 million viewers in its first day.
Now that Netflix is back up and running after all the traffic (you can thank those car robberies), we now know so much more about the long, long awaited game. Top of the list: a new relationship system in GTA 6 can apparently make or break the game's central couple, and GTA 6's car-jacking will be much "more challenging" this time around, according to the studio.
